Jamie Wei Huang Autumn Winter 2019-2020 collection is titled: Roaming Boy. Before the show even started, the fun and playful Invitation pencil and mock examination pass got my attention, I had to use my exam pass (Invitation) to enter the examination room (runway location) and when I arrived in the exam room, exam paper (press release) and a bag of exam kits (goodie bag) were put on the bench.
The show started with a blue cable knitted jumper, styled with a pink skirt patched with tartan pattern (a selction of tartan patterns are featured in the collection). Whilst cable knits can be very dated and boring, Huang shows you how to make a cable knitwear fun. Knitted ”JWH” letters (Jamie Wei Huang Initialled) knitted across right arm and chest, open (buttoned) long sleeves, creatively wearable. The ”JWH” knitted letters are heavily featured in the collection, (in different placements and colours), red/ white/ blue/ yellow, some of the letters are knitted over a big check pattern, reminding me of a game ”Tic Tac Toe”, very fun and playful.
Great among of oversized bum bags and padded jackets are featured on the runway, most of the bam bags are in velvet, very chic and expensive looking. In short, the collection is a preppy style with unique and playful designs, styling in a androgynous way, (in a way it’s very suitable for both men and women), cohesively and cleverly presented from invitations, to the press release to actual clothing – everything is connected. For now, I am comfortable to say Jamie Wei Huang is pass from the examination, good job!
